May PDM

In May, Chapter President, Gary Capone, will present Job Search Advice for Operations and Supply Chain Professionals.

Operations and supply chain roles have always been challenging.  In today’s economy, the bar is even higher.  Companies require continued cost reductions and efficiency improvements in all aspects of the business to remain competitive as volumes decline.  At the same time, job seekers are finding the competition for each job is higher than at any time in the last few decades.  It is critical for job seekers in operations and supply chain roles to demonstrate how they will add value when hired if they want to stand out from their competition.

Gary Capone will provide resume writing advice and interview techniques job seekers can use.  He will also review important topics for hiring managers wanting to improve their screening and assessment skills.  The presentation will include:

  • Resume Writing Tips
  • Interview Questions for Operations and Supply Chain Careers
  • How to Prepare Interview Answers
  • Why You Should Use Behavioral Interviewing Techniques
Date: May 12th

Schedule:

  • 5:30 - Networking
  • 6:00 - Dinner
  • 6:30 - Job Search Advice Presentation
  • 7:30 - Questions and Answers

Location: Wood Grill, Harrisonburg

Cost: $10 (includes dinner)

President's Message

This month, we're gearing up to offer a number of educational classes. Blue Ridge Community College won a grant to provide training to local companies in manufacturing operations. Many of the APICS courses qualify. Local companies can complete a short application and receive funding through BRCC to offset the costs of training for existing employees.

We are also hosting our last PDM before summer and I am excited to be the speaker. I was invited to speak at the APICS International Convention later this year and the May PDM will be a preview of the presentation I will give in Toronto.

If you are interested in our coming classes, or want to attend the May meeting, contact me.

Walker Manufacturing Tour

The Blue Ridge Chapter would like to thank Walker Manufacturing for conducting a tour on 3/24 for APICS and ISM members. The individuals on the tour were very appreciative of the team at Walker and were very impressed with the facility.

Global Sourcing Class

The Global Sourcing Workshop, held on February 6th, was an excellent training class. The workshop covered a wide breadth of topics, from identifying and qualifying suppliers to managing risks.

Look for the next offering of the Global Sourcing Series.
